New setup that enables long-term cell cultures in perfusion mode

The challenge

Many R&S labs face the challenge of sustaining long-term, stable cell cultures in perfusion mode without manual intervention or culture loss. Manual systems often lead to inconsistent flow control, filter clogging, and unbalanced medium exchange, resulting in unreliable outcomes. Additionally, laboratories struggle to ensure continuous monitoring and process safety, as traditional setups lack automated feedback and real-time pressure control needed for reproducible results.

Solution

We delivered the system that automates long-term cell cultures in perfusion mode with two control loops. The recirculation loop uses a gentle centrifugal pump and QB Multisensor-controlled crossflow to prevent filter clogging. The perfusion loop balances medium exchange via weight-based feedback.

Long-term cell cultures in perfusion mode have always meant constant vigilance in the lab - manual adjustments, risk of filter clogging, and variable results. With QB Systems, our team delivered a solution that finally lets researchers trust their process stability and data integrity, all automated and ready in hours. Seeing labs move from hands-on troubleshooting to focus on real experimentation and innovation is what pushes the industry forward. Krzysztof Kaczor
